President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the creation of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) tasked to serve and implement services for the elderly. Republic Act No. 11350 (National Commission of Senior Citizens Act) shall assure the full implementation of laws, government programs for senior citizens, formulate policies for the promotion and protection of the rights of the elderly, among others. The NSCS will also assist the Philippines in international functions and conferences on senior citizens affairs. The President shall designate a chairperson and 6 commissioners from various regions. The President shall also appoint an Executive Director who will be responsible for executing the policies, rules, and regulations of the body. The act abolished the National Coordinating and Monitoring Board created under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. It also mandates the Department of Social Welfare and Development to transfer the functions and programs of for the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged senior citizens to the newly-created commission. -For-Ian V.
